Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas lies the attractive Matho Monastery. It is almost 26 km away from Ladakh. It is the only Ladakh Monastery that represents the Sakyapa Sect of Tibetan Buddhists. The colourful paintings of Sakya Lamas and Sakya Pandits draws visitor’s attention.
Alchi Gompa or Alchi Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh. The monastery is believed to have been built by the Guru Rinchen Zangpo between 958 and 1055 AD. The monastery has several buildings in its premises, like the Main Temple (gTsug-lag-Khang), Assembly Hall or Dukhang, Chortens and Manjushri Temple. Best Time To Plan Leh Ladakh Trip

Tawi, approximately 700 km away from Ladakh is the nearest Railway Station if you plan to travel by train. Trains from major cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata reaches Tawi. From here, one can look for buses or private taxis to reach Ladakh. One can also travel by train through Pathankot and Chandigarh.
Air travel is the fastest and most convenient way to visit this destination. Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh is the nearest airport. It is connected with major airports of the country.
